Dr Christiaan Van Niekerk knew from as young as 12 that he wanted to work with animals and his desire to work in the veterinary industry materialized when he qualified with a BSc Zoology 2012, BSC (Hons) 2013 and a BVSc 2019.
Despite being ‘newly’ graduated, Dr Christiaan spent his CCS year in Fouriesburg in the Free State, working for a fantastic welfare organisation- Cluny Animal Trust. He also spent time catching vultures in the Kruger National Park to collect samples for his Master’s Degree. This variety displays his appetite for diverse species.
His favourite animal is a Honey badger. “Nobody’s going to tell a honey badger what he can or cannot do, he sets his own limits.”
Dr Van Niekerk’s ideal would be to teach owners to understand and know when to bring in a patient for a check-up and understanding an emergency from a medical perspective.
