Enterectomy
An enterectomy is the resection of the bowel to surgically remove a part of the intestine, either small or large. It is a gastrointestinal surgery commonly performed in small animals and often results from necrosis in a segment thereof.
The most preferred procedure to use for this surgery is called an ‘End-to-end anastomosis’.
Here clamps are placed on either side of the portion of intestine that is going to be removed, either perpendicularly or at a straight angle toward the normal intestine. The surgeon careful cuts away the damaged or diseased tissue ensuring that the content thereof does not flow into an open cavity.
